Velocity’s next Made in Seattle project brings together three emerging experimentalists gaining recognition for their deeply kinetic, visually saturated performances, in a series of events investigating themes of separation + connection in our digitally-enhanced world.
Velocity also partners with Love City Love to present a weekend of activated environments and events (Oct2-4) in conjunction with Velocity’s Made in Seattle performances by two young boundary-pushing companies—Anna Conner + CO and Babette DeLafayette + John Marc Powell (BDL | JMP)—at Velocity Founders Theater.

Exercises for the unrested: The kingmaker
“Toughly erotic choreography with great skill.”
—The Oregon ArtsWatch
“Conner has a knack for using sets and subsets of bodies to create
curious carvings and contrasts of space onstage.”
– Michael Upchurch, The Seattle Times
A meditative quintet teetering on the edge of chaos, Exercises for the unrested: The kingmaker, plays with the idea of dynamic balance and the instability of human connection. Conner’s viscerally and erotically charged choreography is performed by an outstanding cast: Patrick Kilbane (NW Dance Projects, The YC, Vernae) Calie Swedberg (Saint Genet), Alexander Pham, Hannah Simmons and Cait Wyler. Featuring an original score by ONE and Moped Genius. Costume Consultants: Annie Price and Julia Eckels.

separated from the womb we became lions
“Incredibly powerful. (Veil of Forgetfulness) had two performers locked in a battle accompanied by incredibly loud ambient noise. I’m still processing it.”
— Sharon Arnold, owner/director, Roq La Rue
DeLafayette + Powell’s work bridges dance and design at the intersections of human form and technology. Their saturated, sense-assaulting performances activate the somatic, haptic, optic and sonic to expose the body and its vulnerability in our cybernetic world. Already making waves while students at Cornish as The Pendleton House, DeLafayette + Powell have emerged as two of Seattle’s most charismatic experimentalists.
For separated from the womb we became lions DeLafayette investigates dancing within a confined enclosure while encased by Powell’s activated environments, using projections inspired and triggered by DeLafayette’s choreography. An ambient sonic-scape also by Powell viscerally vibrates the audience as sonic swells ebb and flow between minute sounds and cresting cacophonies. Also featuring a stellar cast of outstanding Seattle dancers including Jim Kent (Whim W’Him, Saint Genet, Cherdonna Shinatra), Sean Rosado (The New Animals, DeLouRu Presents, Lingo), Markeith Wiley (The New Animals, DeLouRu Presents, Lingo), Marlys Yvonne (Alonzo King Lines, Lily Kind, Tectonic Marrow Society, The Pendleton House), and Elby Brosh (Dylan Ward, Lou Henry Hoover, Cherdonna Shinatra, Alyza DelPan Monley).
