Featuring the dancers of YC2 in a triple bill with new works from local choreographer Kate Wallich and former Batsheva dancer Tom Weinberger as well as award winning choreographer Sidra Bell’s piece Beyond the Edge of the Frame set by Lillian Barbeito of LA-Based BODYTRAFFIC.

Internationally acclaimed teacher and choreographer Tom Weinberger creates a new work for YC2 over the course of multiple rehearsal/residency periods. Weinberger’s new evening length work Familiar Foreign Body recently sold out four nights at Velocity in June. The dancers of YC2 learned and will perform world-renowned New York City based choreographer Sidra Bell’s work Beyond the edge of the Frame, set by Lillian Barbeito, Artistic Director of LA based repertory company BODYTRAFFIC. Kate Wallich will also choreograph a new work on the YC2 dancers, with original music by local composer Luke Bergman.

“As an incubator for both performers and choreographers, YC2 shows promise, and has a solid foundation from which to push creative boundaries” -Sumaya Mulla-Carillo, Seattle Dances

YC2 ‘New Dances II’ is a co-production between Studio Kate Wallich and Velocity Dance Center.

‘Beyond the Edge of the Frame’ was originally commissioned by and for BODYTRAFFIC and premiered at The Joyce Theater in 2012.

YC2 was formed in 2017 by Studio Kate Wallich in partnership with Velocity Dance Center as a platform for dancers to exercise artistic agency while receiving consistent training, and paid rehearsal and performance opportunities. YC2 has empowered dancers to thrive artistically in professional situations and has been the company in residence at Velocity Dance Center. Now in their second season, the dancers of YC2 worked with Kate Wallich, former Batsheva dancer Tom Weinberger, Lillian Barbeito  from LA based dance company BODYTRAFFIC, and Lavinia Vago and Thomas House from The YC during creative work sessions in developing new works, training, re-staging works and community engagement practices. This session, Studio Kate Wallich has supported 6 dancers over 220 hours of paid rehearsal time, provided 110 hours of training, and subsidized access to up to 150 hours of additional class time. YC2 dancers also benefited from Velocity’s ongoing programming.

YC2 has performed at Velocity Dance Center, selling out four shows in October 2017 and performed around Seattle including Velocity’s Fall Kick Off, Pioneer Square Art Walk at Peter Miller Books and on Portage Bay Reach for Sauna Dance with Speedboat, a long form site specific work. Dancers from YC2 have gone on to perform and tour with The YC, MADBOOTS DANCE, zoe | juniper, Ate9 Dance Company, Cherdonna/DONNA, Dayna Hanson, Kim Lusk, Tectonic Marrow Society and more. YC2 dancers are also makers in their own right and have presented work at On the Boards’ ‘Northwest New Works Festival’ and ‘Open Studio’ programs, Velocity Dance Center’s ‘Bridge Project’, Seattle Dance’s ‘Dance Crush’, Photon Factory and more.
