Making a career in dance can be challenging for so many reasons. Artists are often the first to stretch their own financial, mental, physical, and emotional resources for the arts, and are often so busy in the day-to-day hustle they don’t always take care of the essentials. Velocity is offering an open-table Seattle resource fair to help local dancers connect with the resources they need not just to make their work, but to lead healthful, balanced lives as human beings. This fair will include resources on public transit subsidies, discounted legal counsel, resources for organic, fairly-sourced groceries, healthcare, and housing.
*This will be a brown bag lunch, with snacks provided c/o Imperfect Produce.

Seattle has a lot of great funding opportunities for artists to make dance and movement-based work. As you plan your next project, come to this panel discussion with leaders from local organizations on Seattle arts funding + services. Panelists will talk about the current funding landscape in Seattle right now, and the initiatives and opportunities they have in the pipeline. This is also a great time to engage with local leaders in artists’ services to ask questions and gather useful pro-tips as you develop your funding plan for upcoming projects.

Kawasaki Studio
Moderated by Velocity Communications Manager Gedney Barclay

As artists, we have to answer for our work all the time: in grants, in bios, in press releases, at dinners and fundraisers, and even at informal gatherings with non-arts friends, we all face the question: “What’s your work like?” If you’ve ever felt at a loss translating your work in the studio to words, this is the lunch for you. Bring in a bio, a grant, a press release, or a show description you’d like to work on, and we’ll learn some activities and exercises that can give you the resources to speak confidently and excitedly about your work.
*This will be a brown bag lunch, with snacks provided c/o Imperfect Produce.
