Daniel Linehan’s critically acclaimed Not About Everything is a witty and thought-provoking “masterpiece” described by The New Yorker as a “self-reflexive tour de force.” Velocity is proud to present the West Coast premiere of this internationally celebrated work. Sharing the evening is a world premiere that has Linehan collaborating with a cast of Northwest artists to create the newest installment of Linehan’s The Karaoke Dialogues.
The Karaoke Dialogues: Seattle Trial is a six-day research process is led by Olympia native, Daniel Linehan, who returns to the Pacific Northwest after dancing with Miguel Gutierrez, training at P.A.R.T.S. and performing his work around the globe — from Sadler’s Wells to the Dublin Dance Festival to American Realness.
Open to movers + performers of all disciplines, this workshop explores our connection to identity, both singular and collective and asks: What do we win, and what do we lose by participating in forms of common action? The workshop culminates in an all participants performing in The Karaoke Dialogues: Seattle Trial, September 12-14 as part of Velocity’s presentation of Daniel Linehan.
The Karaoke Dialogues: Seattle Trial is a part of the weeklong Velocity Open Forum: The Good Life happening alongside Linehan’s Seattle performances.

Free and open to the community
In this class, Daniel Linehan will lead the participants in several improvisational techniques that have been part of his ongoing dance practice, and phrase material that comes from his latest choreographies. The emphasis is on engaging in a full physicality while challenging oneself to move into zones of uncertainty and imperfection. Be ready to experiment with unfamiliar movement patterns, counter-intuitive coordinations, and ways of juggling multiple thoughts and actions at the same time. The goal is to make possible unexplored physical connections and new ways of thinking about dancing.
Preferred level of participants: Intermediate to Advanced.
This Master Class is co-presented with The University of Washington Dance Department as part of Velocity’s Daniel Linehan Residency September 5-14 with performances September 12-14 at Velocity’s Founders Theater.

INSIGHTS
Daniel Linehan is an exceptional artist recognized internationally for being on the cutting edge of experimental dance and a celebrated a new voice in contemporary performance. Born in Olympia, WA, Linehan has not performed in this region since graduating from the University of Washington in 2004. His critically acclaimed solo Not About Everything has been presented in more than 50 venues internationally, but never on the West Coast of the U.S. A major part of Velocity’s mandate is to champion the creation and presentation of Washington State performance.
